MUREX WELDING PRODUCTS LTD FOR MMA, TIG AND MIG WELDERS
Murex was possibly the premiere manufacturer of quality welding consumables during the 20th Century. Murex started out as a service provider to businesses in the metal smelting and foundry industry in 1909. They refined their metallurgical knowhow for over 100 years. Interestingly they parallelled the development of the Swedish ESAB brand long before any hint of a convergence.
At first they were metallurgists creating metal alloy powders and ran their own foundry setup. They soon moved to Rainham in Essex. For many years they were one of the original FT 30 businesses.
MUREX WELDING ROD EXPERTS: A CENTURY OF EXPERIENCE ACQUIRED BY ESAB
The company developed enormous expertise in handling metals, creating metal powders for a wide range of applications and began to create a range of welding electrodes and weld filler-metal materials. By the 1930s they were supplying vast quantities of welding rods and the second world war boosted their success enormously. Some of their most popular welding rods are still approved by the MOD in the UK for welding mild steel.
When the war was over, so was was Murex's profitability and its star was on the wane. After acquisition by BOC in 1967, the UK rights to the Murex brand were passed on to ESAB. Nowadays, Murex products include a wide range of TIG welding rods, MMA electrodes flux cored welding wire and solid welding wires. Weldtech currently supply the most sought after welding rods from Murex.
Perhaps the most popular general purpose mild steel arc welding rods are Murex's welding rods 6013. These are a rod designed for MMA welding and are available in sizes from 1mm to 2.5mm. ESAB.
