MIG welding - metal inert gas welding - is an increasingly popular technique in the UK's sheds, workshops and on civil projects. ESAB's range of MIG Welders are used for a form of electric arc welding where the flow of electricity from the transformer unit, built into the welding machines, melts the filler wire and the workpiece to produce the weld joint.

The inert gas part is the clever bit. An unreactive gas, usually argon, is pumped through the torch to push air - most importantly the oxygen in the air, away from the incandescent weld pool and prevent oxidation. One of the advantages of this method is that it avoids the pools of slag that will encrust the finished weld and need to be cleaned off. RESAB have an excellent primer here: MIG Welding Primer

At Weldtech UK we have selected the best solutions for MIG welding from ESAB. We... and our customers, really rate the the ESAB Caddy range for pure MIG welding when you know that you won't be needing to switch to TIG or MMA. For welders who need a bit more flexibility the multi process solution we recommend from ESAB is the Rebel range.

ESAB (Mainly) MIG Welders

The Caddy MIG C160i and the Caddy MIG C200i Welders are the products we supply to cover the MIG welder's needs. As the name suggests, the Caddy series are renowned for their compact portability.

These are both great units for the typical range of repair, maintenance and assembly jobs facing many organisations and individuals. They are conveniently powered from a single phase mains plug or a voltage regulated generator. This adds more versatility for welders who are on the move outdoors in agriculture for instance. They conveniently satisfy the need for the 230/240 volt MIG welder that so many people find so convenient.

The 160i has a maximum output of 160 amps enabling it to handle mild steel welding of parts between 0.5 and 4mm. The 200i is a slightly meatier machine and it has a maximum output of 200 amps allowing it to weld the same thin 0.5mm steel but it can tackle welding steels up to 6mm thick.

They are both supplied with : 3 m MXL180 torch, 3 m mains cable with plug, 4.5 m gas hose with hose clamp and quick connector return cable with clamp, and a starting reel of 1 kg of OK Autrod 12.51, 0.8 mm MIG Wire. There is just 100g difference in weight with the 200i a slightly heftier 11.5kg.

ESAB Multi Process Welders That MIG Weld Brilliantly

The Rebels are proper non-conformist welding machines. Absolutely brilliant for MIG as well as TIG, MMA and MAG. The ESAB Rebel EMP 215ic Multi-Process Inverter Welder is the baby of the range. However, you wouldn't want to meet another welder down a dark alley with this baby!

Key features include:

  1. Real multi-process welding powered by 120 or 230V mains supply.
  2. Exclusive sMIG technology, a user-friendly interface with a large TFT display, and a unique five-handle roll cage design.
  3. Capabilities are - MIG, Flux-cored, MMA, and TIG welding; making it suitable for a variety of use cases, including light fabrication, repair, maintenance, and vehicle body work.
  4. A 3-year warranty covers the package which includes; power unit, MIG torch, electrode holder, and other accessories.

This is a very capable ESAB MIG welder and for those tougher jobs perhaps you might go for the largest one in the range we supply: the EMP 320ic.

  1. The ESAB Rebel EMP 320ic is a more advanced version of the Rebel EMP 215c with increased welding output of up to 230 Amps for MIG welding, which lets it deal with thicker steel plate in all modes.
  2. Like its sibling, it offers the same combination of welding capabilities, and the exclusive sMIG technology.
The user interface features the same large, clear TFT display but also provides access to the user manual and spare parts list in multiple languages.

So, whatever your MIG welding requirements, you can be sure that we've got you covered with our ESAB MIG welding solutions.
